Quit your job and knit baskets: how to create a brand of eco home decor

The Tyumen Hook Tmn project makes bags, hats and interior items out of jute and raffia. Tanya Tsesareva created a brand that managed to reach foreign customers in a year.
Tanya told how to start a mini-production from scratch without a team and receive a monthly income.
From harmful production to eco-materials
Tanya is a geologist by education, she worked in the laboratory of lithological and mineralogical research core. The specifics of the work consisted in constant interaction with harmful industrial factors, such as the presence and content of hydrochloric acid vapor.
To say that it is harmful? Nothing to say! Chemical protection was poor and health began to suffer. The more the girl worked in harmful production, the more clearly she understood: she was not going to to do this all my life. After the decree, Tanya decided that she would start life from scratch, quit her routine work and look for a job for happiness.

But she no longer saw any chemistry in the plans, so when choosing a new direction She decided:
she would do something for the soul and with a harmless one. Tanya found a response in jute,
raffia and cotton.
- These are clean and hypoallergenic materials that make me and my clients closer to nature. Against the background of the nightmare that was happening, I began to learn the knitter's skill in order to gradually get away from work that was harmful to my health and live in prosperity.
Hook and over-training
At the beginning of 2022, Tanya turned one year old since she began to do home decor. She remembered that before that she remembered all the tools- hooks - which for the last time I kept it in high school technology lessons: a hook and thread. "To furnish the house with handmade products works are a thrill, and they are stylish, functional," says Tanya. The network has such businessmen who use the word jute in the name of accounts. She decided to be "not like everyone else" and took the hook as a basis, because she knew that the jute would be made of different materials!
At the beginning of 2022, it was five years since Tanya began to do home decor. But before that, she had to remember how to use a hook in technology lessons in high school. - Knitting is my favorite activity among many other equally popular areas for creativity. Tanya: "Furnishing a house with handmade things is a thrill, besides they are comfortable and functional."
Tanya's tuition cost 30 thousand rubles, but she is sure it didn't cost money. She's going to she conducts master classes herself and hopes that the student will be interested.
- There was no one to tell me that it was an extra expense. It is better to learn from those masters whose work brings aesthetic pleasure, and not from those whose baskets do not even hold the walls. But this is my path - long and with mistakes.

Ideas from customers and a carpet for 15 thousand

- I like to create bags, table setting items, and recently for the first time I managed to tie a children's toy! My ideas are my clients. I always fulfill their wishes. They throw up a lot It's new, but I'm not afraid and I'm happy to take on the unfamiliar.
Tanya set the prices so that the products were affordable. The most popular ones cost from 700 rubles to 15 thousands of rubles. For example, in the amount of up to one and a half thousand rubles, you can buy trays and serving napkins. Hats cost from three to six thousand, laundry baskets - from five to 12 thousand rubles and carpets - on average about 15,000 rubles.


The girl started receiving orders from friends and acquaintances, but only after a couple of months appeared first orders.
- At first it was difficult to attract customers. I don't consider my loved ones to be clients: find the audience outside the circle of their communication is much more difficult. But now my products have started people outside of Russia are interested: for example, I recently had a client from Italy.
Tanya discovered the charm of the Reels section on Instagram, where short videos with sellers from foreign countries are collected. The social network provides a huge number of opportunities, - says the creator of the brand. - The demand for handmade products, and even from natural materials, is very high. Society is everything he is more inclined to be close to nature, wants to fill houses with warmth and comfort of natural origin.
Four kilometers of jute and self-employment
In a month, the store needs about 100-150 meters of rope for baskets and five reels of jute - this is about 4 km. Tanya orders materials from St. Petersburg and Moscow, the package weighs more than 15 kg.



Revenue is about 30-40 thousand rubles a month, consumables are spent 10-15 during the same time thousand rubles; the project has no other costs. As a result, the brand brings about 20-25 thousand rubles a month, but Tanya thinks this is just the beginning - after all, the store is only a year old.
Tanya works from home and pays 4%, like all self-employed. It is possible to increase the number of orders the availability of finished products will help. Tanya says that she does not have enough time for this and eventually knits individually for all orders!
If the tray can be made in an hour or two, work on larger-scale products will take at least five days. Tanya understands that if you think about increasing profits and recruiting assistants, you can't do it.
- My goal is to open a workshop where master classes will be held, a lot of products will be sold products - not only knitted, but also the works of other masters of the city. In the meantime, I work alone - I earn a name for myself and regular customers.
